What Is the NZVRS ?
The NEW ZEALAND VINTAGE RADIO SOCIETY was formed in 1979 by a small group of enthusiasts who believed there were then enough people interested in "vintage" radio to warrant the formation of an of organisation to cater for their needs. The main aim of the Society is to encourage the preservation of all types of early radio equipment together with associated documentary material, particularly anything connected with the history of radio in New Zealand.
By joining the NZVRS you will be able to make contact with people of similar interests, to have a better opportunity to buy, sell or swap items of interest, to obtain better access to a variety of components for restoration projects, circuit diagrams and other information associated with Vintage Radio.
Regular meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, starting at 7:30 pm, in the old Chamberlain Park Golf Clubrooms at 990 Great North Road, opposite Motions Road, Western Springs, Auckland. Auction sales of vintage radio related items are held on the meeting nights in the months of March, June, September and December.
Our publication, the NZVRS Bulletin, is issued quarterly in the months of May, August, November & February and covers all aspects of vintage radio. Space is provided for members to advertise items for sale or wanted, at no charge.
A library service is provided for circuit diagrams of many American, Australian, British and New Zealand radios at a nominal photocopy charge. NZ members may borrow selected books, magazines, video and audio tapes, at the discretion of the librarian.
If you are interested in joining, please fill in the following form and send it with your subscription to the Treasurer. Our financial year starts on 1 January but there is no reduction in the annual fee for joining after this date as all copies of the NZVRS Bulletins for the subscription year will be provided.
Although the NZVRS is based in Auckland, many members live in other parts of the country and some have formed local groups, namely in the Wellington, Christchurch and Waikato areas. Overseas membership has also been growing steadily in recent years. The present membership split is Auckland 38%, Central North Island 24%, Wellington 7%, South Island 20%, Overseas 11%.
